Imagine enduring over two years of war, witnessing homes and families destroyed — and feeling the constant pangs of hunger with little relief in sight.

Children in Gaza live in persistent fear and uncertainty. The psychological trauma they experience is profound, with nightmares, anxiety and loss of safety becoming part of daily existence.

Many children are malnourished and desperate — thousands face life-threatening forms of under-nutrition. More than 50,000 children under five in Gaza may now be acutely malnourished.

In northern Gaza and other hard-hit areas, famine has been officially declared in parts of the territory, and the entire population faces extremely high levels of food insecurity.

A full siege, major damage to water and sanitation services, and hospital systems pushed to collapse mean that innocent civilians face the risk of starvation, disease and further trauma. A recent health-sector report warns that medical supplies are critically low and many children are at risk of dying from malnutrition or preventable illness.

Children are dying every hour in Gaza — the majority from hunger, malnutrition or lack of clean water.

The official count (from the local Ministry of Health) is 67,173 people killed in Gaza since 7 Oct 2023, including 20,179 children.

Damage assessments show that about 84% of all structures in Gaza are destroyed or severely damaged; in some zones (e.g., Gaza City) it is up to 92%.

According to a recent UN and WHO-supported alert, 100% of the Gaza population is at acute risk of food insecurity at IPC Phase 3 or worse; around 641,000 people may be in IPC Phase 5 (“catastrophic”) conditions.

The environmental damage is severe: one report says 78% of Gaza’s ~250,000 buildings are damaged or destroyed, generating some 61 million tonnes of debris.

Aid access remains critically restricted and the scale of destruction plus blockade make the humanitarian response extremely challenging.
